Padel Apparel Fabric & Sizing Guide: How to Choose the Right Fit
Padel is a stop-start, lateral, high-intensity sport, and what you wear affects your game far more than most players realise. Getting the fabric and fit right isn't just about looking good on court - it directly affects your range of motion, temperature regulation, and how confident you feel mid-rally.
Why Fabric Matters
Cotton might be comfortable off the court, but it holds moisture and gets heavy once you start sweating - exactly what you don't want during a fast-paced match. Look for synthetic performance blends (polyester, nylon, and elastane/spandex) which wick moisture away from the skin, dry quickly, and keep their shape rally after rally. Four-way stretch fabric (stretch in every direction, not just one) is especially important for padel, since the sport involves lunges, twists, and overhead shots that one-directional stretch fabric can't keep up with.
Fit: Not Too Tight, Not Too Loose
The most common mistake players make is choosing apparel that's either too tight (restricting your swing and overhead reach) or too loose (flapping around and getting in the way during sprints, or bunching up under a bra top). The goal is a fit that moves with your body without restricting it - snug enough to stay in place during lateral movement, with enough stretch to not limit your shot range.
For Women: Dresses, Skirts, or Sets?
All three are popular on the padel court and it largely comes down to preference. Padel dresses offer a streamlined, one-piece silhouette with no separate top to ride up. Skirts with built-in shorts combine the coverage and freedom of shorts with a more feminine cut. Two-piece sets (top and skirt or shorts) offer more flexibility to mix and match, and can be more breathable in hot weather since air moves between the layers.
For Men: What to Prioritise
Lightweight, elastic shorts with a comfortable waistband and enough room for a full swing are the standard. Polo or performance t-shirts in breathable fabric complete the look - avoid heavy cotton tees that soak through quickly.
How to Get Your Size Right
Sizing can vary noticeably between brands, so always check the specific size guide for the piece you're buying rather than relying on your usual size. At Six'o Apparel, most of our performance pieces run about one size smaller than typical everyday clothing due to the snug, supportive cut designed for movement - we note this directly on each product page, along with the model's height and the size they're wearing, so you can size accordingly. When in doubt between two sizes, sizing up is usually the safer choice for freedom of movement.
Caring for Performance Fabric
Wash performance fabrics in cold water and avoid fabric softener, which can coat the fibres and reduce moisture-wicking performance over time. Air-drying (rather than high heat) also helps the fabric keep its stretch and shape for longer.
Find Your Fit
Every piece in the Six'o Apparel Core Capsule Collection is built from four-way stretch performance fabric and designed to mix and match, so you can build an outfit that actually moves the way you play.
